What is Entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship usually talks about the practice of starting new organizations, particularly new businesses generally in response to identified opportunities. In AIESEC, we talk more about the sprit and characteristics of entrepreneurs rather than research on how to start a new business. We want to delevop our members with the entrepreneurship characteristics, which are:

- Passion to drive changes

- Enthusiastic vision to make things real

- Flexable to make adjustments in order to overcome any challenges

- “Never give up” attitude: will not stop even having lots of failures

- persistence and determination

- Risk taking, willing to try things that others dear not to do

- Think positive

- Decision maker

There are also different types of entrepreneurship in the world, and we will focus on the follow three thyes of entrepreneurship:

- Business Entrepreneurship: it is the most well-known type of entrepreneurship, which talks about setting up new businesses or expending the business to a new environment.

- Coporate Entrepreneurship: it talks about how coporate can invest in new type of business

- Social Entrepreneurship: it is about the setting up of civil society organizations, like non-profit making organizations, in order to serve the public needs.

Here is only a very brief introduction to what “Entrepreneurship” means, for more detailed description, the simplest way is of course going to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrepreneurship#Characteristics_of_entrepreneurship.

I guess all of you should remember the criteria of an entrepreneur mentioned in the training workship of the Entrepreneurship-Learning program : R-I-S-K-I-N-G.

I like the spirit of entrepreneurship as I love taking risk. I feel very satisfied when the plan does work. Here I would like to share my experience about taking risk.

I've organized an Public Relations event for a model agency with two of my classmates as a final year project in my associate degree. Most of the students from other teams and even my supervisor thought our 3-girl-team was too risky, as we planned to hold an inter-university catwalk competition within three months. I don't why our team had such a strong faith in ourselves but finally (luckily), the project was a great sucess. We managed to find sponsorship, promote, set up venue, etc etc all by ourselves in just 3 months and spent only hkd$5000 for the whole event. At last, we won the project of the year award.

In this blog we can share our views on entrepreneurship spirit but I truly suggest all of you try taking risk sometimes to feel the spirit of entrepreneurship :)

p.s. the website of the competition is still there in the host company's website :D
